On Friday, June 1st from 10 am - 5 pm, the AAMFT-CA Division is co-sponsoring an event with the MFT Department at Phillips Graduate Institute (PGI), The Changing Landscape - What Does it Mean to be a Marriage and Family Therapist?

The event is designed to encourage the beginning of a collaborative conversation between MFTs in California aimed at rediscovering, redefining and reclaiming our professional identity. Because these same conversations are occurring at the national level, AAMFT Executive Director Michael Bowers will be coming to California to serve as our keynote speaker.

What do we mean by changing landscape? Family systems and structures are changing, multicultural issues are expanding, more MFTs are beginning to work in public mental health, and societal shifts are calling for increased awareness and sensitivity. Our systemic perspective, collaborative stance, openness and compassion are needed now more than ever.

Our day-long event will be a combination of interactive discussions, a networking lunch and three presentations on contemporary issues related to the changing landscape. PGI will provide six (6) hours of continuing education units.

For additional information on the event and registration, click on www.aamftca.org or the PGI website http://pgi.edu/siteSpecific/news_SS/newsDetail.aspx?newsID=47.
