"Hypnosis and Positive Psychology: Implications for Overcoming Depression"
Positive Psychology is emerging as a powerful new force in clinical practice, one in which clinicians are deliberately shifting their treatment focus away from reducing pathology to expanding wellness. Hypnosis can be thought of as the original positive psychology for its enduring emphasis on identifying and mobilizing positive client resources for achieving therapeutic goals. Depression in particular, the most common mood disorder in the world, is highly responsive to those interventions that empower the individual and re-direct focus to positive possibilities. Thus, a hypnotically based emphasis on and amplification of client strengths can be a powerful means of intervention in specific ways to be described in this address.
